Caroline Hall's 2008 Solo Show: painting video
30 Vyner Street, Bethnal Green, London, E2

Hot on the heels of her success in New York, British artist Caroline Hall will be bringing her award-winning work to the DegreeArt.com Gallery in London this November.  Caroline’s unusual pixel paintings attracted the attention of Chelsea Art Museum curator Manon Sloane who was one of the jurors in the 2008 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition.  A named finalist in the competition, Caroline’s distinctive style draws on 15 years surrounded by the moving image, first as a BBC reporter and then an independent video producer.  Two years completing a Master’s in Painting gave her time to develop a process which explores the divide between video and painting.  Caroline deconstructs digital video and projects pixellated images onto the canvas as she works.  By trying to capture the constantly changing image in paint she pits the capricious human hand against the unwavering precision of the digital image.

“It is in this pairing of opposites that Hall’s work displays it’s true strength -          condensing fleeting moments without eliminating the energy and momentum of        time”.
            ArtisSpectrum, May 2008

This ongoing series of large-format, mostly monochromatic paintings have been snapped up by art-collectors.  The two week exhibition at the DegreeArt.com Gallery will be a chance for visitors to see the latest work in this series, alongside Caroline’s other paintings which take video editing processes as their inspiration.  “ I work in a variety of styles and mediums but there is only one defining influence.  This is the first time I will be able to exhibit a significant body of work in one space and demonstrate that all the pieces either explore movement and time, or rely on movement and gesture for their creation.”

SKETCHUP @ Bar Kick
Sketchup continues its autumn run at Kick, hosting some of the very best sketch comedy on the circuit. A fantastic lineup tonight including:

Pros From Dover
Neil Cole, Richard Glover and Phil Whelans are The Pros from Dover – "The Morecambe, Costello and slightly funnier Chuckle Brother of Sketch Comedy". As well as hosting their own monthly show at The Albany, The Pros have guested at many other events, including Spank!, the Lovebox Festival, and regular slots in Robin Ince’s Book Club. They have also appeared in Radio 4’s 28 Acts in 28 Minutes.
***** “A truly exceptional show ... fresh, brilliant and exciting ... the Pros From Dover are top of the pile” - The National Student.
“Cleverly arranged ... stunningly performed ... each section intelligent, the acting brilliant” - Three Weeks.
“Carefully crafted pieces, coming swiftly to the gag ... an entertaining, clever sketch show” - Chortle.

The Boom Jennies
**** "These girls are hilarious ... fluid comedy genius" - Scotsgay.
**** "Frequently laugh-aloud funny ... bubbly, naughty, engaging fun. Three girls, one stage, an enormous capacity for wit: a great show" - Three Weeks.
"If Crufts had a comedy class then these girls would win Best Bitches in Show" - Scotsman.

Zimbani
Star Wars ... Die Hard ... The Matrix ... and now, Zimbani! The new buzzword in action, terror and adventure. A totally demented comedy starring Colin Hoult (Colin and Fergus), David McNeill (Laura Ben and Him) and Clare Warde (Touch Me, I'm Karen Taylor).
"Perfectly pitched with a straight-faced levity despite the manic stupidity that such an over-the-top parody demands. Inspired silliness - great stuff" - Chortle ****.
